I have a great old Rockwell/Delta 13″ x 5″ planer built in 1961. I have changed the blades once long ago. I forgot how to change em. I may have had an article explaining the process …but I’ve lost it. I don’t have a jig and am sure I did not use one last time. My planer has three knives. Does anyone know of an article on adjusting and changing the blades? And or, does anyone know the height of the blades above the cutter head and how to adjust without a jig? Thanks.

Frenchafry, the newer Delta planers are essentially the same as the one you have. There is a lot more to setting up the planer than how far the knives project from the cutterhead. You can sign up for Delta's ServiceNet, it's free. You can download the owners manual for a 22-785X which will describe the set up procedure. It shows how to check the relationship of the pressure bar, infeed and outfeed rollers as well as side to side elevation and the bed rollers. You will need to make a gauge block out of wood, instructions are in the manual. The block is used with feeler gauges to make the different measurements. Measuring from a cylinder adds a special twist, without a setting gauge. If there isn't a local Delta repair shop, you can order a setting gauge on line. Once you know everything is in the correct relationship, you will just need to use the setting gauge and not go through all the other adjustments. That planer will make you a happy Patate frite.

Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I'll check out the service net. I was told by me local(very small) tool repair guy that since Dewalt bought out Delta the service for Delta was pretty much done for. Also old parts were mostly thrown away to make old tools obsolete. Don't know if this is fact. Stinks if it is true. Did find a great site for Rocklers older tools. WWW. OWWM.Com Old woodworking machines. I got a download for parts and operating but not for the specs on knife replacement. That site also has old manuals online for free and a classified section. Thanks
I wouldn't worry too much about rumors. You won't find replacement parts for your Rockwell planer from Delta, but the setting gauge and all the set up info are identical to the 22-785X, as well as other models.Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
