To All,
Getting ready to buy a new floor model drill press and am wondering whether or not to buy a cheap 150-200 dollar one, or save the nickels and get a better one, pm, delta, grizzly, etc. I have used my fathers cheapie for 20 years and have never used a “good” one so I cannot compare. I believe the spindle and the amps or horsepower rating would be the difference aside from bearings and the table. I want to be able to put big forstner bits in it, sand, etc. No serious metal work yet forseen. All experiences and advice welcome. Thanks to all.

Dave,
I'm not sure an expensive model is worth it for woodworking, flexibility (for me) is more important. I bought a Radial Arm drill press which allows me to move the bit to the right spot on the wood rather than trying to adjust the wood to the drill bit.
Grizzly has an inexpensive floor model and Woodcraft has the Rikon which is also a floor model @ $199.... good luck with your decision
