I own a Makita 2040 planer/jointer. It is a great piece of machinery but as with all planers, eventually needed new rollers. They had become hourglass shaped and wouldn’t feed. New rollers cost close to $500 Canadian! I took the rollers to a machine shop with a CNC lathe. $25 bucks each to make the rollers parallel.
I have installed the new rollers and on first blush work well. As a bonus the stickiness of the rollers improved as well. I am interested to see how they will hold up. The only other thing needed were roller block bearings. $5 each. Cheap.
Cheers

Congratulations , on saving a fine machine . A machinist told me he puts the rollers in the freezer before chucking them up and turning them true on the lathe .I have had several rollers shear off near the bearing block . When worn they can ruin your machine for sure . dusty
