I have a one small one room shop which serves as my bench, machine and finishing room. I often use tung oil to finish with and have always been hyper paranoid about having oil ,in any state, in the shop. I cant seem to find a good way to store oil, and other chemicals, in the shop. Anyone have any solutions?
Thanks

Companys like grainger have flammable material storabe cabinets in a variety of sizes. Shane
P.S. Personally I dont think the containers of oils and such are the big dangers, but any rags or whatever you used for the application is what scares me. I always take those outdoors when done let them lay out open then then throw them in the outside garbage.
Shanel, and All,
A shop I once worked in had a small fire that the sprinkler system put out. Fire dept. determined that the fire started when late afternoon (after quitting time) sun shone thru a window onto a glass jar full of linseed oil. So spontaneous combustion can take place with a volume of drying oil, under the right conditions. Keep all oil products away from heat, or longtime exposure to sunlight.

Was there a lid on the jar? That is a scary thing.

mud,
I don't know about the lid, I was working in the assembly area, not the finish room, at the time, didn't get the gory details.

Just take rags outside & spread them out to dry & then throw them in an outside closed garbage can. Clean your brushes & then wash them in soap & water & shake out & wrap to form & dry the brush. Wipe the seal area of the can & lid clean & seal the can & you should be fine.
Like the others said, it is the used rags, towels, and brushes that are most danderous. Never throw one away untill it is completely dry. Flamible chemical cabinets are expensive but give peace of mind.

As has been said, metal storage cabinets are the way to go. But since each chemical is already in its own metal or plastic container, this is a redundant safety measure required by OSHA for large commercial shops, but not yours.
