My first need is to determine whether cherry is OK for a cutting board. Most references suggest maple, but I have a piece of cherry 2 7/16″ X
5 1/2″ X 40″. This should be adequate for a board 2″ thick, cut to allow end grain for the working surface.
From the reading I’ve done I suppose urethane glue would be the best and my thought is to use blocks 2 1/4″ square. Finish, I gather should be mineral oil.
Am I in the ballpark? I am open to suggestions, since I have never made a cutting board. Thanks for your time, and Happy Holidays to you all.

Yes, Cherry should work but Maple is better. Do a search, there are lots of threads on cutting boards, plus a live thread if you'll page down.
