Chest of Drawers/Map case plans
Hello all, first real post and I am searching for something to fill my spare time. I am looking for plans, if available, that are a combination of map case/chest of drawers. A similar idea is found in the current FWW #202, bottom of page 87. Since I have been looking a while I am coming to the conclusion that I will have to design this and it will be my first designed piece if I go that route, so a bit daunting. So if anyone has come across something like this and are willing to point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have been looking at some possible chest of drawer plans and thinking of modifying them…make it a little taller, wider, thinner drawers…saying it helps to visualize and then pen to paper.
thx

The unit you've refered to in #202 is indeed like a map chest - I have one in my office that I use daily. Don't have any plans for one, but I do have a caution. Because the drawers are very shallow, there are quite a few dividers, and generally a lot more wood as a proportion of the total volume than in a typical chest of drawers, you might consider building it in stacking units. Mine is two sets of five drawers that stack on a set of legs -- I've been thankful every time I've had to move it.

If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to cut it up and make something with it . . . what a waste!
Verne,The idea of building it as a stackable unit is brilliant! I live overseas working for DoD and we move alot so anything that helps making a move easier is a great idea. ...hmmm silence on the wire. In my industry we call that a clue, potentially an indicator on the availability of our target...oh well time to do this the fun way.Erick
