I am making a box for a Doc who is retiring and the top has the logo of his practice carved in it. I was wondering, when doing this sort of thing, do you want to smooth out all the facets and carving divits, or is it ok to leave them for the hand carved look (which they are). Perhaps is just a personal thing or depends on the job. What do you all do?
Thanks and have fun-Rocky

If you can clean up your cuts with your knife it would give a cleaner look. But I would not use sandpaper to clean up facet's. Sandpaper would take away from the handcut look. Facets are normal especialy if your new to chip carving. For the best and most dramatic look smooth precise cuts is your ultimate goal. Anything handcarved is always a work of art and your Doc will be very pleased. If this was a relief carving the tool marks would add too the carving and therefor be left in. At least this would be my preferance.
