Chippendale Pie Crust Tilt top table
I am looking for a plan for a tilt top -pie crust table. Preferably a Chippendale design. I am particularly interested in a design/layout for the pie crust molding on the table top. I have been doing woodwork for 10+ years as a hobby and consider myself at the intermediate level. Any help would be appreciated.

Splinter,
I built one of these tables last year and I used the book "Making a Pie Crust Tea Table" by Ron Clarkson and Tom Heller. It is a great resource to build step by step. I posted pics of the table in the Gallery under Philadelphia Tea Table.
There is a fine tea table in one of A.W. Marlow's book "Fine Furniture for the Amateur Craftman" and many period furniture books show off these tea tables. The Keno book has many great pics.
Also, there is an excellent table in the gallery by Rob Millard. Good luck. Cal
Thanks for the feedback. I looked in the gallery for your table, but it only shows entries back to Feb. 1. Is there another file where it might be?

There is an excellent book ( with a few important exceptions) on making a pie crust tea table. The title is Making a Pie Crust Tea Table, by Tom Heller and Ron Clarkson. The book is published by Schiffer and the Library of Congress number is 94-65627. The book gives a complete overview on how to construct a high style Philadelphia example. The detail photos are excellent and easy to follow. There are measured drawing in the back of the book ( some at full size). The books downfall is some of the carving and turnings are rough, and the finish is complete unacceptable for a piece of this quality. Despite its apparent complexity, the top is very easy to complete, and I'm a self described mediocre carver. Another excellent pair of articles appeared in the November/December 1987 issue of Fine Woodworking. The articles were by Eugene Landon and David Ray Pine. Look in the gallery for a recently ( December ?) posted example that was very well executed

Rob,
Thanks for the tip on the book. By the way it's available at Barnes and Nobles at http://www.bn.com, just type in either the author or ISBN number that Rob gave (94-6562).
Best of luck
Rob,
Thanks for referring my article from long ago. Saved me the trouble of looking it up.
Regards,
Ray
David,
I enjoyed all your articles, ( fret, Glazed doors, and pie crust). I think the fret was my favorite.

Rob,
Ah, shucks,...(dragging of toe in sawdust). Just trying to help. Thanks,
Ray
I second Mr. Millard's recommendations (and cautions) on the Heller and Clarkson book. When I was just starting to make the 2 books published by these 2 (the other on making a footstool) were a godsend.
