Hey All –
Need some advise regarding my 7-1/4 portable saw. For years I used the porta cable saw with a metal or aluminum base. Finally the motor died and had to replace. The closest saw I could find that felt right in my hand was the Dewalt from HD – only came with a plastic base. Mostly I use the 7-1/4 to cut large sheets of plywood down to size. I use a shop made straight edge made from 1/4 ply with a fence – 50 inches long. The jig that aligns itself after you make the first cut through the ply wood –
Anyway the porta cable was great but I’m having trouble with this Dewalt. Maybe someone can diagnosis the problem. The trouble is the saw wants to pull away from the fence duing the cut. I have to apply pressure to keep the saw against the fence – pressure I never had to worry about with the porta cable ? What’s going on ?

Most likely, the saw plate is out of line with the blade, not unusual but there aren't adjustments on many saws. Others are not solid enough and may push out, depending on how the plate is connected, particularly at the rear. Sometimes you can loosen mounting screws and move the plate a little. With a plastic base plate, you may be able to take some off the edge. If the base plate is out of alignment, the saw will pull one way or the other. A bad blade can pull, too.
Older Dewalts were great ! I like mine.
I bought my Dewalt BECAUSE it is so adjustable for alignment. It is about fifteen years old ( so not the new model you have ). I am hoping the saw you have has all the same adjustments. Manual ? Plastic base is probably fiber reinforced. Probably not a bad thing.
