Clayton Model 140 V-Belt Adjusting
Fellow Woodworkers who own a Clayton Model 140 Oscillating Spindle Sander.
I purchased a used Clayton Sander #140 from a fellow woodworker. There was no Manual for this machine. It’s easy to operate this machine and I enjoy using it in my small shop.
I noticed the spindle was slacking off and turned the machine on its back to see the double V-Belt system and there is slack in the belts. I am trying to figure out how I can tighten up the slack in the V-Belts. The system is not the same as in a Drill Press set up where there are tensioning toggles to work with.
I would appreciate it if one of my fellow woodworkers in this Knots Community can come to my side and tell me which nuts and bolts are the ones for adjusting the V-Belts before I mess it up.
I tried calling Clayton Machine Corp. left several messages on there system. So far, no answer from them.
Thanks,
Louis/first-woodworker

That company is in Royal Oak which is about 30 minutes from me. I stopped in there 2 years ago to see if they have any scratch and dent tools for sale. They are a joke, only 4-5 employees. I'm not even sure they actually make their machines.
Here's their local number as listed in our phone book: (248)548-2380
Mumda:Thanks for your response. You just bolstered my opinion of Clayton. Do you have any information on he proper adjustment for the V-Belts?Thanks,Woodworker1
All I can suggest without seeing your machine is to loosen the bolts that hold the motor and move the motor until the belt is tight then re-tighten the bolts.
Thanks for your response.HTC Products Inc. is the maker of the Clayton Sander. I finally got through to there Customer Service Dept. and to a Tech. It's simple but not so simple to get to the motor housing to loosen the correct bolts and nuts. I would have never thought the top of the machine has to be removed to locate the adjusting bolts. They are sending me a manual for the machine that covers V- Belt adjustment to setup, etc.Again thanks for your response,Woodworker1
