Have rust on table tops of bandsaw and tablesaw. What do I use to clean them off and then what can I do to prevent it from happening again?
Thanks.

Get some brown ScotchBrite pads (Home Depot has them in the paint section) and cut one in half, then put something flat on top. Scrub away and make sure you wear a good dust mask. Do it evenly and flip the pad when one side gets clogged. Once the rust is gone, vacuum it and wipe down with mineral spirits or something similar. When this dries, give it a few coats of paste wax, Top Coat, Boeshield or something similar. No oil or anything with silicone- these will ruin finishes.
I just cleaned all of my machines last week and the brown pads kick butt! My jointer had an even coat of rust on both beds, but it only took about 5 minutes to get all of the rust off.
