While I was cleaning my pistol today. I noticed a blackened 1/4 inch straight carbide sitting on the bench. I use a safe gun cleaner to soak my parts in called M-Pro7. It’s the only cleaner my Gunsmith recommends.
Its a biodegradable cleaner. I’ve seen guys demonstration it by brushing their teeth. I wouldn’t do it and neither should you. Crest works just fine. It’s also reusable. I leave it in tupperware container.
I tossed the bit into the container with the gun parts and let it soak. Pulled it out and brushed it with nylon cleaning brush and it was clean. Not brand new clean but there wasn’t any more carbon on it.
For anyone who wants to check it out. Here’s the web site

There are so many ways I could go with this now. But there might be youngsters out there.Len

From routing hardboard. I had to make a bunch of big snowflakes one year for Christmas. I started making them from hardboard because it was cheap. Then after burning 4 or 5 bits up. I switched to Birch ply but I had the burned the bits already.
This was just an experiment. Len

Len,
Hmmmm, that sounds like pretty cool stuff. I wonder what the residual lubricant is in it? Its rated from -55° to 800° I see.
Not sure how it would work on chisels and plane blades as I've only been able to get mine up to 500°.
:-)

Len,
How does the cleaner do with lead buildup. Some of the bullets I shoot have a tendenancy to build up on the forcing cone of my Python.
Thanks,
Greg
Greg,
I don't have problems with lead build up on any of my router bits...lol.
I clean my .22 with it and there isn't any build up so I guess it works well. We all know how notoriously dirty they are. I started using it because my gunsmith had developed a reaction to other cleaners. I soak the parts in it, sometimes overnight because it doesn't harm the finish. Everything scrubs off with a nylon brush. You can get the cleaner in small bottles at Big 5 Sporting goods if there is one in your area.Len
