Cleaning dust collector bags
Every three years or so I throw both bags in the washer and dryer. They come out very clean.

I have an 1100 CFM Jet with a 5 micron "felt" bag and have washed it once in 8 years. Usually I just give the bag a good shaking and beating from the outside and unit works well. Not to peak CFM, but a small bit of dust on the bag will increase the micron efficiency. And the CFM loss is not noticeable.
I just turn mine inside out and use the shop vac without any attachments on it. Doesn't get it perfectly spotless, but works well enough.
Filter Bag Washing
Last I knew, the DC manufacturers and the filter bag manufacturers recommended NOT washing filter bags. You might want to contact Delta and ask them.
Washing DC filter bags
Howie,
I did call the Delta Machinery Technical Support and was told that it is perfectly fine to throw polypropolyne bags in the washer and dryer. The Tech wasn't sure about some of the felt bags.
Also I asked about the notion that cake on the inside of the bags increases the filtration capability. The answer was that cake simply reduces the efficiency of the unit. They are designed to move air and if cake clogs the bag the efficiency decreases.
So, two more urban myths disspelled.
