Cleaning Felt Dust Collector Bags?
I have a 1.5 hp Delta dust collector with a 1 micro felt bag. In my opinion it works great, except for cleaning the felt bag. I have tried shaking it out, air hose, washing it. Any advice other than buy a paper filter or a cyclone?

This has worked for me - not on a wood dust collector but on a malt mill one:
Replace the bag inside out. Start the collector with the max possible airflow.
The idea is to stretch the bag slightly. This will open the pores and allow the trapped dust to get out.
In my case I got another three months of use of a bag which was normally replaced annually but the spares had not arrived yet.
Hey! There is now a file attach box!
I had the same problem. I swithed to a 5 micron bag that seems to wash fine. This is only used on my tablesaw. 1 micron DC's are used elsewhere in the shop. I use an air cleaner as well. I've been looking for a better solution (as I don't want a 4" hose running across the floor to the TS) but haven't found one yet. I may have to build one that fits under the extension wing of my TS.
In the 10 years of using my dust collect I have never washed my 5 micro bags. I just turned them inside out and shook them, and then I went in to take a shower.

Now that is great idea. I just need to wait for a 60 mph wind, and a dark night so my city neighors don't notice the dust. I live in one of the windyest (sp) cities in the country so this should be a problem.
Thanks.
PheasantHunter,
You may be surprised by how little dust will be ejected when you blow out the blocked bag. Not that this assumes that you have removed all the stuff you could brush off. What's left is the stuff that is clogging the pores in the bag.
