I have some new unfinished pine windows and Fir doors that I need to finish. I’ve waited too long and the wood is dirty and has some finger print marks.
What is the best method to clean the wood prior to staining.
Thanks for your help.

MikeK,
Don't know if it's the best, but I'd wash with soap(Murphy's), and after drying, wipe down with mineral spirits to remove any residue. You should be good to go after that.
I had a project I shellacked that had some marks and dirt on them. I used denatured alcohol to clean it and it turned out great.
