Sorry to ask this, I did look in the archives . I have a set of rock maple shelves that I want a clear finish on without the mess and stench of lacquer or the yellowing of oils. Or, some tips to help me tame the lacquer brush would be welcome.

waterbased lacquer for waterclear..use a paintpad type applicater..
Minwax 'poly-crylic' is fool proof with a pad painter.
Sealcote shellac..slight yellow..same for applicater
lacquer may eat a paint pad..I spray it, or use a good brush and work with a forgiving lac. like Deft. Still some yellow tho.
hello dustin
I have several items made in maple some finished with TUNG OIL some with WATER soluble varnish. (uk BLACKFRIARS)clear satin. The tung oil seems to yellow quicker but all light timber will darken as will all dark timber lighten (sods law).

tea bag.
