I’m usually over in breaktime but thought I’d get a better solution here.
My primary employment is in large format print & graphics.
Question for you folks.
Is there a gloss clear coat finish that is suitable to coat a painted surface.
Recently we had produced a huge construction hoarding graphic; essentially a series of primed crezone panels with the graphic printed directly to it, and coated it with an exterior grade varnish. It looked great when we left the site, but the next day all the white areas (areas that dont get printed) in the graphic had gone a really muddy, streaky brown.
Reading the can it said ” not suitable for painted sufaces “
I’ve looked around but cant find anything that would work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I would think shellac would be your best bet as an initial sealer coat, as long as the inks are not alcohol soluble. Don't brush or roll it on, spray it only. After that you could topcoat it with most anything including your previous varnish.
Our graphics shop applies thin clear plastic which is then heat-treated over their work. Sometimes clear acrylic (plex) is used. Since your work involves an unusual technique, i'd practice the shellac on a sample printout first.
