I believe Woodcraft and all the other similar stores have a book of coffin plans. But since it's just a prop, why do you need a plan? Just cut it out of plywood, nail it together and be done with it. Or, for a more "old fashioned" look, use pine boards and "distress" them a little.

thanks mike, i thought of that too, but just wanted to see what might be out there perhaps for expediency sake. i actually found a couple of websites with coffin plans after i posted the question. incidentally, i've enjoyed seeing the answers that you post here.

Most of the plans you are likely to find will be for real or modern coffins. I agree with mike, make it out of plywood (preferably exterior grade ). Easiest way to make as a prop would be to have the sides at 90* to the base and then run the taper for the head area. allows it to open and close easier, especially if someone is going to hide in it and jump out at the trick or treaters. I dressed up in a crypt keeper costume one year and sat in a chair on the porch ( kind of slumped to the side a bit ) and remained still while some teenagers came to door and commented on the dummy. When they rang the doorbell I came to life and scared the %^&*# out of them.
