Hi All, I’m working on a project that I’d like to match an existing maple cabinet. To save time I bought prefinished maple plywood for part of the project, but the existing cabinet is an obviously darker shade than the prefinished ply. Does anyone know if I can darken up the prefinished maple ply? Do I have to sand off the finish and reapply? Or toss it and buy unfinished ply? Thanks, I’ve never used this stuff before. – jfk

There are toners + dyes that can be added to a clear finish -you would then recoat the pre-finished maple board for a darker color-
Did you stain the original cabinet - and if so do you know the color you used ?

I'm not sure I know the answer to this. In part, it depends on the finish that is on the prefinished plywood. Certain conversion varnishes don't accept additional topcoating very well, but I really have no idea whether such things would be used frequently on this product. You might need to ask the supplier or manufacturer (if you know it.)
The other caution is that you should aim a little on the light side, since the maple itself will darken a bit over time to some extent.
