I will be applying color to a box made from heavy MDF. After the color is applied I will be sanding the surface for possible texture effects and will then be laquering it. If anyone can suggest a colorant product that will work well with MDF and laquer or suggest a further option, it will be very appreciated. (acryllic paint?) Thanks!

Do you want a transparent finish? If not, with MDF I would try several coats of primer and an enamel topcoat in whatever color you desire. Your local paint supplier could recommend a specific primer/enamel combination.
