Has anyone colored epoxy? Looking for an opaque colorant. I’d appreciate a heads up on what you’ve found as an effective colorant.
Thank you

You will need to provide more info. All dyes are not compatible with all epoxies. We need to know what epoxy you are using and how deep you are pouring it in order to make any meaningful reccomendations.
Powder pigments, a teaspoon will color a cup of epoxy, that’s where I get them but any arts supply store has some : https://www.kamapigment.com/?___store=en&___from_store=fr
Depends on the color. One of the handiest and cheapest is sanding dust. Color, of course, varies with the wood species and the amount used. Also, you can use stuff like coffee grounds, soda, metal filings, carbon black, etc. Otherwise, I suggest that you contact the epoxy manufacturer for the proper colorant for their brand.
Just finishing up a project with a black epoxy inlay. Used this colorant (link is for black but they make other colors):

With this epoxy:

Super impressed with that combo. Reasonably priced compared to many options. Slow set for 48 hrs then cured VERY hard. Colorant made it completely dark back. Read directions carefully, measure by weight not volume and then mix very slowly to avoid bubbles!
I mixed a small amount of clear first and used it sparingly with a small disposable brush to coat interior surfaces of inlay and let dry for 24 hrs. With that had NO problems with bleeding of that dark black even with super light birds eye maple.
I've used painters acrylic in a tube.
I've turned some Paralam material into veneers and plan to veneer a box exterior. Was going to use either West Systems or System 3 both of which I have in the shop. The depth will only be 1/16 or less. Looking for color contrast to green of Paralam material. Seen a lot of transparent dyes but really want an opaque color. Black I can find but was looking at possibly a dark blue, like Prussian blue or a red, not sure what temperature or shade yet. Thank you all for your input. Some great ideas and info.
