I was thinking about making a china hutch using both Black Cherry and Butternut. Perhaps Cherry for rails and stiles and mouldings, Butternut for panels and accents. I would be using a clear oil finish, no stain or a very light stain. Any ideas about this combination of species? Perhaps I am heading for disaster?
Thoughts or experiences and possibly both would be very graciously appreciated.
Thank you all in advance

I combine woods together all the time. my favorite is cherry and walnut. there for butternut would be a good alternative for the walnut.
I use a BLO before I put on the top finish of poly or other varnish.
