Come take a Virtual Tour of my Bench Room
I spend at least 75% of my time in the workshop in my bench room, the rest of my time either in the adjacent machine shop or outside in the yard either turning or power carving. Of the time spend in my bench room, probably 90% of that time is spent in one area about 4′ x 2′. That space is in front of my Tucker vise. So it makes sense to have all my most frequently used hand tools central to that location. I recently spent a few days reorganizing my tools to give them all homes, make them more easily accessable, and in close proximity to the vise and workbench. To do that, I had to rethink my entire bench room. I had some stuff just being stored and it was eating up prime real estate, so it got moved further away to make more room.
For this kind of thing, you want to see bigger pictures than what’s available here, so rather than upload them, I will redirect you to my blog entry: Bench Room Reorganization

Chris,
Your workshop is very impressive. Your tools are stored safely and are handy. I noticed the blue handled Irwins. Nice touch. I like those things. They are poo pooed by the folks who can't distinguish between "good tools" and "expensive tools". But I gotta tell ya, when it comes to chopping tails, there is NOTHING like a set of Lie Nielsen chisels. They are expensive, but IMHO, they are totally worth it. I have see photos of the Blue Spruce. The company has a good rep. However, there ain't nobody gonna take my LNs.
Your workspace looks to be ample and enjoyable. I envy you. I wish I had such a nice space. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with my "converted basement bedroom", but I reserve the right to be jealous. I wish everyone could work for Lee Valley and get the discount on their tools. I understand that LV employees can buy LV tools for 90% off, and they don't charge tax, and they also give free food with every purchase to an employee.
Have fun. Keep making those masterpieces.
Do you remember Kaleo? He used to be a lot like you are now. Now I believe he is on his way to becoming as rich as old Dusty, Ray Pine and Richard Jones. Look him up.

Nice setup, Chris. In particular, I like the use of slide-out trays to keep certain tools handy.
