Has anyone seen a commercially available kit for a tailvise or a tailvise that can be retrofitted to an existing workbench. Buying the screw and building one seems quite complicated. I am surprised if none are available.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but try Lie Nielsen, they have a kit. Also check out Benchcrafted, a new wagon vise that CSchwartz has been praising recently and retrofitted one of his benches with.

A tail vise is defined as a vise located at the end of a bench, so you could use a face vise is you like.

How about a wagon vise? Of course you’re going to have to build a new bench!
I have worked on a number of benches over the years and this is my new one. Still in progress...(IMG_4303_small.JPG)
Surprisingly there are very few tail vise kits around.

This is probably what you’re looking for. I have the screw portion of this for a leg vise that is going on my new bench.

As the other poster indicated

can’t say one way or the other but the lie Nielsen looks like a better build? The only thing I don’t like about tail vises is they tend to sag over time and they are complicated to make and install.
It’s why I’m going wagon this time around.
