Hi everyone,
I don’t have access to a large planer or jointer so if anyone
knows of a company in the area that rents time on their machinery that would be a
great help to me. I’m from Fall River Ma. That’s in the south-east of the state. It’s about twenty minutes away from Providence R.I. which usually is a more familiar landmark than my small town.
thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mike Whipp,
I dont know of many that will rent the machinery to you outright. That would mean they would leave you alone with their expensive tools during the rent time, and just maintenance would eat up any rent you might pay.
I have been through some different cities and found that woodworkers are generally a sharing breed. If you call around, you can make friends. Your more likely to get what you want from a friend, than otherwise.
If it turns out that even your friends cant give up time on their machines, just pay the cost. It is really not that much money to just pay the $50 to $100 an hour shop time for the one or two hours you will need done.
One good example is the TimeSaver. That machine can do a whole lot of sanding in an hour. That saves the woodworker the expenses of belts, sandpaper, time and the unknowns.
It is wise what you ponder. In fact, it is the future. Just like one can buy the doors already made for kitchens...
Hope this helps.
*I found a person who sanded out a couple of countertops on his widebelt sander by calling. I started with a couple of cabinet shops, who said "no", but one referred me to a one-person shop who had the machine and was willing to do the work. It was a good deal, considering the machine cost and his time.Bob
*As a follow on to the above discussion, there is a site for a custom cabinet maker near here. He specializes is small production runs and custom jobs and has edge banders, moulding machines and power belt sanders. You might check out his website: http://www.jbdx.com
