I own an 18 ” Rikon bandsaw, and I need a greater resaw capacity for turning large logs. I am looking at a Powermatic and a Laguna. I always though that Laguna was pretty high end, but the new Powermatic is more expensive. Both look like quality machines, but I would love some feedback from anyone experienced with either of these.
Thanks,
Cliff

I just ordered the 18" 3000 Laguna , so i cant say too much about the saw yet, but i did contact a woodworker who purchased it and he said that he loves the saw. My friend has the 16" 3000 and had the same comment.

Recently I found I could not eliminate an excessive amount of drift. I called Tech Support and got Mark?, who must have been new. When he did not call back with more info, I called again and got JASON. He's the man!!I I told him Laguna's support reputation was on the line with my friends at Knots if he could not help me. Said he did not know of Knots but he felt his 'honor' was on the line every time he helped a customer.
Jason stayed on the line with me for 45 minutes while I changed blades and followed his instructions. Result - no drift at all. I told him his 'honor' was intact and even enhanced. Laguna's Tech Support is, and has been, top rate except for inexperienced Mark?.
The drift cure: I had been adjusting the blade to ride on the CENTER of the top wheel. Jason said to keep it on the FRONT THIRD of the top wheel. He was right.
The Driftmaster fence is a great tool - but very difficult to install on the 16" model. Perhaps they have made changes since I bought mine in May 2009. Their 1" Woodslicer carbide blade is a top-notch veneer blade.
