I’ve been looking at the Jet and Delta 14″ band saws trying to figure out why there is a $300 difference. I’m partial to Delta because I have a friend who has had trouble with his Jet TS and planer. However, $300 is hard to swallow. I recently compared them side by side at Woodcraft, asking one of the salesmen to explain the differences. He sited the following:
heavier castings, thicker table, stronger wheel with more spokes, closer blade guides, heavier machine overall, and better/easier/more accurate adjustments.
Do you guys agree with this, and is it $300 worth of stuff?

Not to me. I looked at both and bought the Jet. it had twice the power and it came with an optional riser.
Mines worked fine since I bought it.
PS throw the blade away and buy timberwolf
I agree with the heavier made all around, and JET is NOT twice the Hp They are both 1hp unless you are looking at the lesser 3/4hp models
I am very happy with my 1hp DELTA, have the optional riser block also, GET GOOD BLADES!!!!!
Jeez,
how come my Jet says 2 hp.?
ONly one I've ever seen ( FWW, American woodworking mag, WOOD) and in several stores...all compare the 14" JET with the DELTA.. and the model $300.00 less than Delta Has 1HP motor. or are you talking about the larger bandsaw 16-18"?
I refer you to Fine Woodworking No. 153 (the Tools & Shops issue) for a rundown of 14-inch bandsaws. The Delta came out on top, but the Jet compared favorably and I think it is a good value. However, since I am a Delta owner, I will now attempt to make a case for the $300 difference (actually more like $250--$850 for the Delta, $600 for the Jet). The Limited Edition Delta currently available includes a rip fence and mobile base (two accessories I find essential) that closes the price gap to around $50-$70, a price more acceptable for the differences cited to you. There's also a $50 coupon offer, but only if you buy an additional Delta machine, a contingency beyond most people's means. Bottom line is if you can find use for these accessories, then the Delta is worth considering. If not, then go with the Jet.
