I recently bought a Stanley 13 compass (circular) plane and finally got an opportunity to use it to smooth some long curves on the stretchers of a console table I am building. I absolutely love it! It does a much faster and better job than a spoke shave and sander. When I cut the curves on the shorter rails, I was disappointed that I could not use my compass plane because the curve radius was too small. Does anyone have a Stanley 20 or Record 020 Compass plane and can tell me if it can plane smaller radius curves?

Hi Rob,
I have the similar Stanley 113 circular plane. I must confess I bought this old plane simply because it was so beautiful and mechanically intriguing, but like you, now find it is a joy to work with. I cannot answer your question, but I bet Patrick Leach can. You can reach him at [email protected].
