ARRRRR! the bloody spam filter’s killing me!!!
Hi Folks.
I’ve had a customer ask for a solid Ash exterior door to be made.
This wouldn’t normally be a problem but they want it flat all over, no panels, no frames.
I’m having trouble seeing how this can be done and still fit into a door frame after the thing has expanded and contracted a few dozen times.
It’s being painted so that will help plus I can cut the board widths down and alternate the grain but without any cross members anywhere surely it’s still ultimately going to cup?
the spam filter doesn’t want me to thank anyone.
Glynn.

Will they let you cheat a bit?
If they are looking for the exterior to be ash, you might think about ash strips over a BB plywood interior. The 'strips' could be full width to look like 'real solid ash.' That wuold help reduce the seasonal variations; the splitting of the ash strips would need to be considered in the working environment.
The jambs would have to be solid ash for hinges and locks and it makes your job MUCH more complicated.
I would try a design after explaining the issues to the client and is the suggestion worth trying?

Hi Forrest.
Thanks for the reply.
I’ve already got back to them and told them I’m not prepared to make a door like that. I told them it will come back and bite them in the bottom later on.
I had written a lot more then this but the spam filter made me take it out.
Last time I use this BB I'm afraid
