has anyone used this stuff?
My limited reading says it tools pretty much like a softwood and it takes paint well.
I’m helping a friend do the nursery for his coming baby and he asked if I thought this stuff was a good idea?
I said around doors I’d use only hardwood because of wear and tear but up top, on the crown…
Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated.

Hey-
I've used the composite moulding (like MDF, not the stuff that is like styrofoam) and found it fairly easy to work with. I used several pieces built up to create an 8" crown. It was nearly impossible to cope so I had to stick with mitered inside corners.
Good Luck
did it tool well enough that the inside corners looked good once they were caulked and painted? Thanks. -ted

Yeah- It was fine. Obviously, as a painted crown there is no visual difference and the price was right!
thanks
I'm not sure what it is called but I used some crown molding that was made of rigid foam? Not sure what it was.. Big-Box stuff for a neighbors house.. What he wanted.. About 1/4 the cost of real wood..
Seemed pretty flimsy when carrying it but it actually turned out pretty nice.. After painting you would never know it was not real wood... Well, unless you knock it with somethin'.. Dents pretty easy but really easy to fix...
Unless you just 'HAVE' to have real wood or the MDF stuff it is more than OK for the job..
Not sure I would use it for corner or window/door trim though!
