Looking for a light and portable compound miter saw or SCMS for use on base and case where I have to move from room to room.
My Bosch 4410 at 53 lbs is not easy to schlepp around.
Makita LS0714 looks interesting, if pricey. Anyone have experience with small CMS or SCMS and want to recommend one?

I have no idea how much it weighs, but my site saw is a Hitachi 8 and 1/2 inch SCMS. My shop SCMS is a Bosch 10 inch saw that I have permanently mounted to a bench, it is just to heavy to be taking it in and out of the truck and moving it on site. The Hitachi isn't the lightest tool in my truck but it is easy to move and has plenty of power.
Bruce,
I haven't used the smaller Makita, but I do have a 10" Makita SCMS. The Makita sliders are top notch tools with a few advantages over the others. The design of the sliding mechanism and the bearings make head flex almost impossible.
I don't know what price you have seen on them but Amazon has them on sale right now for under $425 delivered. http://www.amazon.com/Makita-LS0714-2-Inch-Sliding-Compound/dp/B000AU1VJE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-3579978-1621612?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1177461250&sr=1-1
