I am planning to make a computer center for my son’s bedroom. I am looking to build a desk that will go into the corner of the room. The desk will be a computer center. On each end of the desk, branching out on each wall will be a unit on for his television and video game stuff and on the other side will be a unit for his school books and schoolwork.
I am thinking I will make this in 3 separate units. Right now I am not sure what to make the desktop out of, and how or if I should find a way to connect it to the 2 other pieces. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm just completing a simular unit per your discription. I used Birch Plywood covered with hunter green plastic laminate, and edged the tops with Red Oak.
A few tips:
Put all the units on casters. Crawling under a desk to plug in cables is only fun for a short while. You'll appreciate being able to easily pull the desk out from the wall.
Make sure wherever the monitor and/or TV is there is plenty of support beneath that shelf. An extra rib near the front edge will keep a monitor shelf from sagging under the monitor's weight.
Be sure and ventilate wherever the CPU goes. I like to create a vertical "chimney" at the back of a CPU cabinet, and open up the bottom-most slots on the rear of the PC case. Cool air can be drawn in from the floor thru these slots, and hot air blown out the power supply and other fans can rise up behind. If you surround the monitor, ventilate that too.
Plan wire/cable paths carefully. Some connector ends need a BIG hole to pass thru. You don't want any cables down at your son's feet, or where a pet can get into them. Allow enough slack in cables so modules can be pulled out without binding for service/cleaning/upgrades/whatever.
