Does anyone have a source for plans for a conference table no longer than 8′. The traditional “boat” shape would be desired. The conference table would be used in a small engineering office, simple in design. Would prefer the table supported by two pedastals as opposed to 4 legs. Thanks

There was an article in Fine Woodworking No. 151 (September/October 2001) about a table similar to the one you describe. Although the author built his as a dining table, he based the form on a conference table. It's 48" x 96" and the long dimension is convexed (boat shape). The top is supported by two tapered pedestals. The focus of the article was torsion box construction for the top because of its high-strength to low-weight ratio. You could make the top out of something more solid, but you might have to reinforce the base to accomodate the extra weight. By the way, the author, Kim Carleton Graves, is a contributor to this forum. You may be able to contact him if you have any questions. That is, if he is not too busy, as he was in the process of moving his shop not too long ago if memory serves.
