The maker I currently work for has his work in several galleries right now, and typically deals with most in the area. I have been debating whether or not to submit my own work to these galleries.
It is no secret that I have plans to go off on my own eventually, and we also build different styles.
Can anyone see this being an issue?

I would ask your employer.
The best thing would be talk it over with you boss before you do it. Ask how they'd feel about you submitting work to a couple of places. Unless you are duplicating what the shop is making, or making them when you should be working on their things, I bet you find encouragement and help.
It is far better for your boss to hear about placing your work from you then to have someone else tell him.

I agree with the previous blogs. It is just common courtesy to talk with your current employer before going in competition with him/her. Think how you would fee if your employee started showing their work in the same place. If you don't talk to your current employer before submitting, you might be self employees sooner than you expected. I probably would get rid of someone who did that to me.Domer
The only people who know how much of a conflict it is are you and your boss. Theory is a very poor substitute.

I have a feeling you are about to be amazed by how much your boss thinks your work looks like his.
Always go in the front door , not the back door .
I would never do it without talking first.
Have a talk , and ask how he would feel about the possibility of you submitting your own work as well . Let him know your intentions and your needs .
Which will make you more ?
