Connecting flex hose to ducting
I’m using 2729 6″ ducting with 6″ flex hose from Wynn Environmental. I am aware that this is a known problem. I’ve pretty much scraped off all of the skin from my fingers and have yet to connect one piece.
I tried the Pentz trick of cutting slots into the duct and tried another trick of slotting the flex hose. Neither has worked for me so far.
Any other successes you could share with me?
Thanks,
BB

Well, for one thing, with duct fittings there are 'innies' and 'outties'. In other words there are fittings which slip into the pipe or over the pipe. If you get a union which is an 'innie' you may find the flex fits it ok.
Try a heat gun on the PVC, to shrink or expand it.

It may not work with the hose you have, but with patience I've been able to fit flex hose over the thinner end of the 2729 duct. The trick is to twist it so as to unscrew the wire reinforcing, allowing the flex to stretch to a larger diameter. Make sure the edge of the duct is smooth, and work around and around the edge. It takes a while to get it on, but it seals quite well and will not come off.
Not sure about the "thinner" side of the duct. As I've made a number of cuts into the duct already it's pretty much all the same.BTW, how do you cut your ducting? I'm using a recip saw with the ducting mounted on a jig attached to the TS. Works OK but can't get a very straight cut.
By "thinner" I simply meant the end without the bell.I cut it with some handsaw or other, I don't recall what sort. You do need it held solidly. If you could somehow guide the piece smoothly, a would bandsaw work well. However, for me this works only if the piece is smaller than I want to cut, since if the piece twists or shifts a little while cutting, it can shatter or worse.
