A couple of years ago I made my first piece using veneer. I used contact cement to adhere mahogany veneer to plywood. Everything went well but I have two questions. What are the negative aspects of using contact cement? Does it have the same longevity as hide glue, PVA, etc? I would also like to know if it is safe to use Danish oil on it, or will it soak through and cause it to lift from the contact cement?
Thanks.

Before you get an accurate answer you'll need to tell us whether the veneer had a backing and if so what kind, or was just wood.
What Danny said. TMK contact cement should only be used with paperbacked veneer.
Some people poo poo using contact cement totally, but I know of others who use it almost exclusively.
