Contractor saw custom hood/port
Buster,
I have a Delta CS. I put a plywood panel inside & across its base then put a hose port directly under the front edge of the blade thru the plywood. It does a fair job this way. I previously had the port toward the rear. That did not work well. My port is only 4 inches.
This arrangement does not get much of the dust from the table top. To do that I think that you will need to hook a hose to your blade guard. Don’t ask me how.
It is my belief that a box beneath the saw is really the best way to go. I did that for many years before I had dust collection. It worked especially well on the saw that had a custom plywood base with fitted collection box.

I considered the box-in-a-box but on the General it's not that easy. When the blade is at 45 the motor is almost level with the table allowing no clearance for the thickness of the enclosure.
I'd also rather go the blade guard route using lexan as the suck would be directly on the blade.
My question is about the direction the dust travels after the blade tooth strikes the wood. Is it down, to the side, up, to the side and up?
I'm testing a guard with a 4" port. After I get the DC up and running I'll post results and pictures.
Thanks,
BB
