I’m about ready to purchase my first table saw. Given that I’m new to woodworking, intend to do this purely as a hobby and I don’t want to spend $2k or so, I’m leaning towards getting a contractor style saw. Lots of choices out there (and opinons) but I’m currently leaning towards the General 50-185M1. Just saw some info. on the Grizzly G0444Z which seems to be roughly the same feature wise and costs less. Any comments on how these two saw’s stack up would be welcome.
Cheers,
Doug

The Griz is so new that people aren't familiar with it....I've heard they're back ordered and haven't heard of anyone receiving one yet. It looks promising, but I wouldn't be the guinnea pig for it over the GI. The GI is well proven, has twice the warranty, likely a better fence, and one of the best stock miter gauges going. FWW mag ranked it first in their current issue over the DeWalt, PM64a, Griz, Jet, Delta, Bridgewood, and Woodtek. The few bucks difference in price for the GI over the Griz is money well spent IMHO.
Good luck with your hunt, and let us know what you get.

If you're going contractor, I will echo scotty's comments.
Good Luck...
