I have just purchased a 37 inch performax dual drum sander on the used market. It’s in pretty good condition and the price was too good to let go. I was looking and woodmaster drum sanders and prefer the idea of using hook and loop paper like the woodmaster. This would enable me to put multiple grits on a single drum when sanding individual boards. I plan to convert my machine to use hook and loop paper. I googled hook and loop and found a website that sells adhesive backed hook and loop material, http://www.buyhookandloop.com/. I’m not sure what to buy, and don’t have any sandpaper for reference. I will be ordering that today as well. Do I apply material that has the hook to drum and the paper has the loop? or, do I apply material that has the loop to the drum and paper has the loop? Thank you for any help you can offer. Ken | |

This answers the question I posted. I also went an inquiry to a sandpaper supplier. This is the response I received:
Yes, all of the hook and loop sandpaper we sell has the loops. It attaches to the hooks on the sander.

Ken,
Did you end up purchasing the hook tape from http://www.buyhookandloop.com/ ? If so did you have a good experience, I need a custom length of tape that is longer than the Grizzly conversion kit includes so I planning on buying a role from a supplier and was searching for recommendations. Any additional information you might have would be appreciated.
Grizzly sells an H& L conversion kit for around $45 specific for drum sanders. It has worked well for me.
rwe2156, thanks for the suggestion. I looked into that kit and while it comes with multiple rolls of hook material, it is pre-cut to ~86 "(with the lead out tails overlapping). I need something closer to 110" total for an uninterrupted wrap around the drum on my thickness sander. I was hoping for an alternative to the grizzly kit that would be reasonable (you can find many Velcro branded, self-adhesive roles of the hook material being sold online for $100-$300), thus my inquiry to Ken as the vendor he mentioned has some much cheaper options.
