Hi All,
As part of a dust collection project, I’m trying to convert my planer dust hood from a 4 inch port to a 6 inch to match my main duct work. I looked a several HVAC adapters that I could possibly screw onto the exiting hood – after cutting off the 4 port and some of the hood to make the transition. Most are pretty thin metal relative to the existing hood. It also seems like it would be a bit of a Frankenstein. The pictures show what I’m thinking.
Has anyone done this type of modification and, if so, how did you go about it?
Thanks, Dean

P.S. I've also considered an HVAC "Register Box" like this one:

I would not change it at the hood, the manufacturer did the math on airflow to clear the chips. Add a foot of 4" pipe and then use a simple reducer to get to 6 inches. Just my $.02.
I have done much the same, just in reverse - 5" port to 4" ducting. It works remarkably well with a sufficiently powerful sucker.
Faced with the same problem, I chose to build a new dust shroud from plywood. With the 6 inch hose it now collects 99.9% of the dust.
Thanks for the suggestions. Gives me some options to consider.
