Hello All,
Just want to share with you a new furniture idea and product that I have been working on for the last 1.5 years. It is a bed system that creates new space by storing the bed high overhead when not in use, while creating space below for a variety of supplemental furniture arrangements. It is a free standing piece of furniture, can be placed anywhere (including in front of windows) – unlike murphy/wall beds, and uses any style of mattress desired. I just got a web site up ( www.DoubleSpaceBeds.com ) , and hope to manufacture this in the next few months. My main focus is going to be in making a “hardware kit” (consisting of an inner framework, manual movement components and assembly parts) for other furniture makers, companies and individuals to use and combine with their own outer panels (similar to cupboard doors) and furniture to make complete Double Space Bed units.
The beds in the photos were all made in my little workshop and in my carport, by myself in Tucson, AZ. enjoy!

I want two of the movement kits when you have them ready. What an awesome idea!!
I was just listening to a comedian today rant about when your "friends" invite you to stay at their house for the night and when you get there they give you an inflatable air mattress to sleep on. Wondering where you got the inspiration for this? Nice idea, and work.

jg,
Very very good idea and execution. If I may say so, you should start by marketing this in 2 places - Manhattan and Tokyo. I'm not kidding. Huge high-end populations plagued by tiny living spaces. The number of well-off couples living in studio apartments is unbelievably large.
best of luck,
