I’ve got a 12×16 shop in low humidity Central California where the summer temps routinely are 95-105. I was thinking an evaporative cooler would be ideal for my size shop and the low cost but then wondered about the wisdom of using one around the project lumber I have in the shop (ie, would the higher humidity air blowing from the cooler be enough to cause problems?). I can’t seem to find much info at all on cooling a shop. Can you give me some advice? It’s not worth it for me to put in an air conditioner….my other option would be just regular fans.
Thank you,
charlie

Charlie,
I doubt if the cooler would add enough moisture to the air to create all that much wood movement, especially if the cooler is only run for a few hours a day, rather than day and night continuously.
I wish I could be absolutely certain about this, but, being a New Englander, I don't have any first hand experience with evaporative coolers. You might want to post this question on the regular Knots site on the chance that a few people will have some actual experience with a cooler in a woodworking shop.

John - meant to thank you long before this. Thank you! I did post it to Knots and am getting some very useful info.
You are welcome, I've been following the discussion, I've learned a lot myself on the subject.
