Anyone have cork flooring in their house or have any thoughts on it? I wast thinking of installing it in my kitchen. I would probably use the floating plank type, pre finished I guess it is. I don’t mind if it gets some scratches etc it is a floor after all. I’m more concerened about staining and long term. I think they finish it with a varnish or poly of some sort. Can I or do I need to plan on adding varnish down the road if it gets worn? If it’s kind of a “throw away” in 10 years type thing I probaly wont do it. I really like the look of it and hope it works out but don’t want to regret it in a year or so.
Thanks
Dana

What the heck happened ?I was on breaktiem when I posted this and it shows up on knots? Hmm. Well if any of you guys have thoughts I'm all ears!
grew up with it
My dad was an architect and had it in a house he designed for us in the early 50s. Held up well. I don't have a clue as to how he had it finished, but I saw it many years later and it still looked fine. No major stains or chunks missing. This was cork on concrete. My guess is 3/16s to a 1/4 inch thick.

Thanks Alan.
I wonder if the old stuff is better than the new stuff as is the cae with so many things these days.
In the spirit of Breaktime, allow me to suggest making the cork floor out of wine-bottle corks. Plane the little suckers into hexagons, and then glue them together so they rest on the subfloor on-end. Or, if you're really good, dovetail them together. The down-side, of course, is that you have to start drinking a lot more wine. ;-)
Seriously, I like cork flooring. But, I'm not sure how practical it would be in a kitchen, due to spills and such.
Thats a great idea!
I should be done sometime around 2025!
Man I keep looking at this stuff and I like it!
logistics
"I should be done sometime around 2025!"
You could speed that up by sending cases of wine to your Knots friends, ya know. ;-)
