I would like to apply a new plastic laminate over an existing, sound plastic
laminated kitchen countertop. Has anyone done this successfully? I think I
have read an article on this in some publication but I’ll be darned if i can
remember which one, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Chomper:
Is the old counter top still attached to its base cabinets????
Is there a connected back splash???
It can be done and only out of necessity should you. So many factors hinder quality even before you begin.
Can it be done.....Yes! Scuff up with existing laminate, edges included, use a rough grit that you have. Glue your edges first, then trim your overhang, make sure the edges are flush with old counter top laminate. If existing counter-top was built properly, a slight space will exist between new edge and top as a result of the previous corner being filed. Fill-in any voids with a materieal like bondo, sand flush, lay down your contact cement on roughly sanded old top and new top laminate, then lay-down your new laminate.
Hope that helps!!!
