wood workers I really need your input, please advise, thanks Ron
I am a retired cabinetmaker and have used a lot of poplar. It is very stable and is great to work with. I mostly use it for painted projects because the green can make staining poplar a challenge. I would recommend getting some scraps and practicing you finishing process before you commit to using poplar.
Its fine.
What fun is using all blonde or white poplar and dying it. Use the right dye combination & you can't tell if its cherry or walnut!
Seems to be a Zombie post. Your grandchild is probably walking and talking by now. I hope your crib turned out nice.
Poplar is tougher than pine, softer than oak and primes/paints nicely. I have used poplar for the bases for my last two workbenches and would again so it wears pretty well . . . but, will ding easier than oak, maple, etc.
