I’m looking for a plan to build a cradle for new born twins. I have seen several plans for cradles but none that were designed to hold two babies.
If anyone has built a cradle for twins, please post the overall measurements.
Thanks,
Rich

Rich, I found a site that specializes in cradles (and rockinghorses). Their oversized cradle for twins is 25" wide x 29" high x 41" long.
Here's the link: http://www.childwoodproducts.com/cradle.html Look down just below the wood samples for info on extended-size cradle.

Think VERY LONG and VERY HARD before building a cradle to hold TWO babies.
Friends with twins had to place them in separate rooms after they were about 4 weeks old 'cause as soon as one woke up, it's snuffling would wake the other. Placing two babies in the one crib would be even worse. It would look good for the a photo but never be very practical. I suggest a matching pair of cribs - if you're feeling creative the end panels could be book matched - or alternatively a contrasting pair say one in walnut the other in cherry.
(John Arno don't go and jump on me about the how kid friendly or not the suggested timbers are. I'm merely trying to suggest a contrast.)
And if the twins are already born you need to get crackin'. Cradles aren't safe after 3 to 4 months ... once the little ones get to sitting up, they need to be in more secure surroundings.
I just built two cradles for friends who were having their first children and I warned them that the cradles would only be good for that period of time. I'll be posting pictures once my son sends me the digital images (interesting that I'm a retired IBMer ... a computer geek ... and don't even have a digital camera ... but that's another thread).
John
