Hi all,
I have an opportunity to acquire a used Craftsman 22124. It is in good shape as far as I can see looking and touching etc. and is about 6 months old. Was used in a milling shop at the local hardwoods dealer (I love that shop!!) so has some hours on it no doubt, but well maintained.
My question is this…he is asking $750 for it including the mobility kit (Craftsman list for saw and mobility kit is $1000). It has a nice Biesemeier fence and a nice miter guage with hold-down clamp. It also has a fold out cast outfeed table. Although it is a bit too much saw for me (OK maybe more than a bit just now, but I’m ambitious!), I am thinking that it might be a good investment in terms of resale value. In other words it may make sense for me to plunk down the $$$s for this one knowing that down the road I can probably recoup at least the bulk of the investment by selling it. I figure that if I go with a lower end saw (considering the Grizzly 444, around $475 new) that may not be the case.
Well I see that I never exactly got around to my question last paragraph so here goes…anyone have any experiences with this model? Is $750 a decent price? I might offer him, say, $650 and hope to bargain to an even $700.
Any input would be appreciated. I have a sort of first mover advantage here since he hasn’t officially offered it for sale. I just happened to ask at the right time. Anyhow…thanks in advance.
Regards,
Woodchuck

Hi Woodchuck - I've had a 22124 since April and am happy with it. I bought it and sold my GI contractor saw because of the smaller footprint, full cabinet, and cabinet mounted trunnions....the fence is about the same as what I had. I got a great deal that I know is tough to duplicate, but $750 for a used one seems high....it's hasn't been difficult to get a new for $850. Your figure of $650 is more reasonable IMHO. I'd also want to find out why they're selling it.
I don't think it'll be too much saw for you. If you can get it at a good price I'd hang on to it and enjoy the features.
That seems a bit high but I would probably snatch it up if the same deal existed in my area.
I would also check and see what service agreements were purchased along with the saw and if they'll roll over to the new owner.
Less importantly, check and see if the saw is wired for 220V. If you need it to run on 110V you'll need to factor in that cost.
Woodchuck, I'd pass on that saw, unless they were willing to let it go for a nickel. But chances are someone will pay more, and I say let them have it.
I would'nt think there would be any warranty on it since It's been used commercially. And It may seem fine, but they are getting rid of it when they do need a saw. I suspect they found out that it wasn't up to the demands they needed to place on it, and they probably found this out by stalling it numerous times , and probably overheating it. I think the 22124 is a very fine saw. Similar to my own GI Hybrid cab. saw.
Both of these saws are terrific a for Homeworkshop, but I wouldn't put them in a commercial shop.
As for the price of a new one, if you hold of until closer to x-mas it will likely go on sale a lot cheaper. But defiantly go for a cab. saw when you can, that's one purchase you won't regret.
Good Luck. Walker1

Do you have the 50-220C from GI? That's a saw I'm strongly considering and would like to hear your input on it. I'm going to be in MN next month, about a ten hour drive, and can pick up the 50-220CL M1 (the one with the 50" Beisermeyer clone) for $850.I do like the design of the 22124 but am a bit annoyed that Sears raised the price to $1000 and could also really use the 50" capacity of the GI.But I do like that I can get the Craftsman serviced locally. There is not a GI distributor or authorized service dealer in my area.
Hi Woodchuck,
I bought the 22124 Sears table saw about two months ago. The regular price was $949 but it was on sale for $ 849 including delivery during that weekend. In addition I got an addiotional 10% off on a published Craftsman coupon ( from a flyer) and another 10% off for being a member of the Craftsman Club. I opted for the three year extended warrantee ( for an additional $ 50. )
So the grand total including free delivery right into my garage and a three year extended warrantee was $710.
Like most of these saws there is a good bit of work to assemble , install and align the extensions etc.
I have found it to be an excellent home shop saw, especially with all the features.
The Beisemier fence is really the best I've ever had, and having the trunnions attached to the base rather than to the bottom of the table maskes alignment of the saw blade much easier.
I definitely recommend this saw, but I would not buy a used one from a commercial shop at the price they're asking with no warrantee.
Wait until Sears puts it on sale again ( they do this regularly) and join the Craftmans Club on line and buy a new one delivered to your home.
Good luck with this ---------------- Joe
Thanks everyone for your input. I have decided that I like the saw but not this one and not at the asking price.
Walker1's points about its likely life of hard use and even abuse really seem to paint an accurate picture. I would be stretching to buy the saw and really can't afford to buy any headaches. Thanks.
The other comments from owners of this model are also appreciated and have led me to reconsider my needs. Thanks also.

Hey Woodchuck, just stumbled upon your thread and thought I'd point out that I just found out craftsman is having an anniversary sale right now if you wanted to check out some new saws. Good luck with your decision.
Thanks!
Received the tool catalog earlier this week and published price is $849.00
From the sounds of it, $850 is about as low as we can expect Sears to go on this saw. I believe I could take the catalog in and argue for the $850 price, but I don't believe they'll allow any additional discounts.I think that saw is a decent value at that price, but I can still get the General for $850 with the 52" rails. But the General is 10 hours away and won't fit into the back of my SUV. A friend of mine will probably deliver it for me, however. So I have to weigh the Sears with it's local, at-home service work, VS. the General without the local service and the hassle of getting it to my place.[EDIT] And the General will have 52" rails - nice, but not absolutely required.Anyone have any opinion on this?

I just returned from Sears in Frederick, MD and they have the 22124 "on sale" for $949. List price is shown at $999.
The fence setup is pretty sweet, far beyond the fences on the 22104 and the 22114 which were on sale for $509 and $599 respectively. They all seemed to have pretty nice miter setups though.
I would consider purchasing this saw (22124) new for $750, but $950 is too steep for me.

$750 is a bit high for this saw used, they go on sale regularly for $850 new. The mobility kit is $49.00. For example at Christmas I paid $760 plus was able to squeeze another ten percent out of Sears. Find out if it has the mobility kit and if he bought the extended warranty and for how long. I sold my Jet contrator saw and bought the 22124 last Christmas. I really like my saw.

Harold
