Hello,
I am about ready to setup my new Craftsman 22124 and as I do I am wondering whether or not I should put a Link belt on the motor from the start rather than the supplied v-belt. I just thought that as long as I am in the setup process and I have everything apart, now would be the time to do it.
Let me know, all thoughts welcome!
Thanks,
Mike

Mike you shouldn't have a V belt. It should be flat !
And while I'm at it...After you get it all together, check and if necessary, center the blade in the insert so that it won't contact the insert at 45 deg. The whole top assembly moves after loosening the 4 bolts and fence remains in alignment. A friend dropped his while letting it up-side down and didn't realize he had knocked it out of registration.
Have fun,
Joe

Joe,
Thanks for the input. So do you think that I should replace the flat belt with a link-style belt or is the flat belt just fine.
Mike
The flat belt is soooo much better! And you're gonna love that blade.

Joe,
Thanks and how has your friend liked his saw?
Mike
We both bought them just under $700.00 and for the price we're both very happy. The big 3 contractor models were the same price and General was even higher here. You'll find the Orion people all about customer service too. Mine had a tilted Bessy fence but the replacement was here in 3 days. My biggest (only) complaint is the M gage. Friend already had an Incra, and I prefer jigs.
Joe
Do you know the 800 number for Orion?
Thanks,
Mike
It's on the cover of your owner's manual.
Flat belt pulleys won't work with conventional or linked v belts and are even smoother running than a linked belt so there is no need to replace the belt or pulleys.
One thing to watch out for is flat belts will often wear out faster than v belts. Check the belt a few times a year for wear, cracking, or loss of rubber. If it starts to go, order a replacement before the belt fails completely. You probably won't find a replacement flat belt locally, so you need to have one on hand before the original belt fails.
