Hello
I’d like to try to make a bookshelf using the Maloof round style.
I’m a new woodworker, so sorry if this is a simple question but how do I make this joint?
Thanks

Use this bit or similar (maybe larger depending on your component thickness) to make the V groove and the mating part.

Probably you should use a standard square bottom dado for most of the shelf width cut into the upright then just use the V groove on the last inch or three at the front to create the look you want.
If it isn't obvious how to make the bull nose round on the front edges of the shelves and uprights let me know.
Personally I would probably cut the V areas by hand but that is because I enjoy learning the hand work and am in no hurry. The way I suppose I would do that is cut the V on the shelf first, slide the self into the dado in the upright as far as it would go up against the front and then use that and a flat layout knife to mark the V groove on the upright and then cut it out with hand saw and chisels.
It's not the easy way but it's the cowboy way.
I know you probably won't cut them by hand but this is some thing to look at until more posts arrive.
This is a very handy knife made from a file.
Awesome!
Thank you! That makes total sense!
