Hello. <!—-><!—-> <!—->
I constructed a walnut crib for my daughters’ new arrival.<!—-> <!—->
I’ve heard nitro-cellulose lacquer is very nice, but might not be the best choice for a child’s crib. So I’m wondering your opinion regarding this and what type of finish you would suggest. <!—-><!—->
My first concern would, of course, be safety. Second to safety but important to me also, would be durability (to pass the piece onto my grandkids – kids) and looks (to complement the walnut wood).<!—-> <!—->
Thanks in advance. <!—-><!—->

Don,
First off, congratulations on your new arrival.
Concerning the finish; all finishes are safe once cured. I would think commercial cribs are finished in a lacquer.
For your walnut crib, nitro lacquer is fine. Shellac (which is used in the pharmaceutical and connfectionary industries) would be another excellent choice. Both are in the "easy" category if in need of repair.
Best of luck.
Peter
